INVESTING IN YOUR FUTURE THROUGH A UNIQUE PARTNERSHIP
The Gate of Opportunity Scholarship is more than financial support — it’s an investment in your education, your growth and your future.
Built on a unique partnership between you, a generous donor, Berry College and your family, the Gate Scholarship helps make a Berry education possible while giving you meaningful opportunities to grow personally and professionally. As a Gate Scholar, you’ll commit to working on campus and contributing a portion of your earnings toward your education, while your partners invest alongside you.
But the Gate experience extends far beyond the financial commitment. Throughout your time at Berry, you’ll be part of a supportive community designed to help you succeed. Through meaningful work experience, mentorship, professional and personal development, community engagement and connections across campus, you’ll build skills and relationships that will serve you well beyond graduation.
By the time you leave Berry, our goal is for you to graduate with little to no debt and with something equally valuable: confidence in who you are, experience that prepares you for your career and a strong foundation for what comes next.
And as you build your own success story, you’ll become part of the Gate legacy—one rooted in opportunity, hard work and paying it forward for those who come after you.
HOW DOES YOUR PARTICIPATION ADD VALUE TO A BERRY COLLEGE EDUCATION?
As a Gate Scholar, you’ll gain more than financial support. You’ll be part of a community intentionally designed to help you navigate college, build meaningful relationships, gain real-world experience and prepare for life after Berry.
Throughout your Gate experience, you’ll benefit from:
- Individualized support and guidance through regular communication, check-ins and connections to campus resources that help you navigate academic, financial, personal and professional challenges throughout your time at Berry.
- Meaningful work experience through Berry’s student work program, allowing you to develop transferable skills, build your resume and graduate with up to four years of professional experience.
- Personal and professional development through Gate-specific programming focused on career readiness, financial wellness, leadership, communication, life skills and preparation for your future beyond Berry.
- A strong sense of community and belonging through monthly Gate gatherings, community-building events, service opportunities and shared experiences with fellow scholars.
- Mentorship and meaningful connections with donors, faculty, staff, alumni, community members and fellow Gate Scholars who can provide encouragement, guidance and connections throughout college and beyond.
- Leadership and service opportunities that allow you to take an active role in the Gate community, develop your leadership skills and give back to Berry and the broader community.
- Accountability and encouragement along the way. The Gate program provides structure and support to help you stay on track with scholarship expectations, academic progress, campus employment and your individual goals.
ARE YOU ELIGIBLE?
The Gate of Opportunity Scholarship is a competitive, merit- and work-based scholarship designed for students who demonstrate strong character, determination, and a commitment to making the most of their Berry experience. - Demonstrate financial need as determined through the FAFSA
WHAT IS THE COMMITMENT ASKED OF YOU?
Being a Gate Scholar means taking an active role in the partnership that makes the scholarship possible. Scholars are expected to remain engaged in their work experience, academic success, personal and professional development, and the Gate community throughout their time at Berry.
As a Gate Scholar, you will commit to:
- Working consistently throughout the year. Scholars maintain campus employment during the academic year and summer, completing an average of 16 hours per week during the school year. Students are also expected to commit to being on campus and working up to 40 hours per week during campus breaks.
- Investing your earnings in your education. A designated portion of your campus work earnings is applied toward your direct educational costs, including tuition, fees, housing and meal plan.
- Planning for personal expenses. Scholars are responsible for personal and incidental expenses associated with living at Berry throughout the year.
- Actively participating in the Gate community. Scholars are expected to attend required Gate meetings, programs and events throughout the academic year and summer.
- Investing in your own growth. Scholars participate in professional development, mentorship, community-building, service and other opportunities designed to support their personal, academic and professional development.
- Remaining accountable to scholarship expectations. Gate Scholars are responsible for maintaining academic progress, fulfilling work commitments, communicating with program leadership and remaining actively engaged in the program.
“The Gate Opportunity Scholarship has helped me become an intentional person that wants to make a difference not just in the Berry community but to make an impact wherever I go.”
