Short Bio

Dr. David Slade is Associate Professor of Spanish and Foreign Languages Department Chair. Since the summer of 2008 he has directed a seven-week program in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, in which Berry students assist local elementary school teachers with their English courses. The program is funded through the “Fundación Progreso Guanacaste.” Dr. Slade’s published scholarship focuses on 18th century Latin American literature and culture. He is the co-editor of a book on Pedro de Peralta Barnuevo, and is the author of an online textbook for Latin American culture. He has also presented on various pedagogies of engagement, including academic community partnerships and the digital humanities. Recently he published an article in the Colonial Latin American Review titled “An imperial knowledge space for Bourbon Spain: Juan Bautista Muñoz and the founding of the Archivo General de Indias.”
