The Berry College Outdoor Laboratory
The Berry College Campus and Surrounding AreasWith about 26,000 acres, the Berry College campus is one of the largest college campuses in the world! This vast area is nearly all field and forest, including streams, a large reservoir, pine plantations, and wild natural areas. A wildlife preserve is located between the main and mountain campuses. Additionally, wild natural areas, such as Marshall Forest, Black's Bluff, and the Chattahoochee National Forest are all in close proximity to the campus. Educational Land Management (ELM)
Stewardship of the institution's vast land resources for educational use gained prominence in the fall of 1999 with the establishment of a multi-disciplinary team of faculty and staff to form the Educational Land Management Committee (ELM). The committee serves in an advisory capacity to the President on educational land management and use matters, and the committee is dedicated to supporting Berry College's goals of providing a full range of multiple use benefits from the land. Faculty and outside guests who wish to conduct activities on the land are encouraged to register their intent. With this unique outdoor laboratory, Berry is beginning to establish itself as a world-class institution in the area of environmental sciences.
