Objectives  

Complete the following as part of your study abroad application. 

 Why do you want to go abroad?  What are your expectations?  Some might be: 

• Focus on academics  
• Learn or perfect a language  
• Be immersed in the host culture and learn the nuances of that culture  
• Serve abroad  
• Obtain work experience  
• Get away and experience something different

Academics: 

 What do you want to study?  

  Do you want to complete an internship or service learning program as part of your study?  

 Are you prepared for the rigors of studying in another country?  

 What is your language proficiency? What is required?  

 Do you want to fulfill major or other degree requirements?  

 What is your gpa? What is required for your program?   

 Personal Considerations:  

 How well do you adjust to new situations? How has your transition to college been?  

 Do you want to study with other Americans or enroll in a university with students from the host culture?  

 Are you a small town or big city person?  

  Would you like to be at a smaller institution or a large university?  

  Think about a time you had to navigate something new but didn't have many resources available? How did you cope?  

 Do you prefer a faculty-led summer program or an independent program?  

 Would you like to live with a family for students of the host country, or US students?  

 How long do you wish to stay?  

 How will you use this experience to enhance the Berry community?
