Dr. Lawrence E. McAllister changed the lives of countless students during his long and distinguished career as a Berry professor. Decades later, those students - now accomplished alumni who have pushed the boundaries of space and science - honored their late mentor by leading the effort to name the science building in his honor.
McAllister Hall was christened during Mountain Day, capping a whirlwind "mini-campaign" that saw 108 donors commit $5.94 million to science education and scholarships. So great was Dr. Mac's influence - and so boundless was the appreciation he inspired - that the initial campaign goal was achieved even before public launch at Alumni Weekend 2012.
We are pleased to recognize the generosity of these alumni and friends by publishing their names here. We are also happy to share the story of the man who helped inspire Berry's enduring commitment to excellence in science education (originally published in the summer issue of Berry magazine).
