Steps Required for Student Loans


(1)  Loan Acceptance on VikingWeb/Financial Aid Page
All students accepting student loans must complete these three steps.

  • Log onto VikingWeb. Select the 'Financial Aid' link from the 'Admissions' tab or 'Students' tab.
  • Log into your ‘Financial Aid’ portal using your VikingWeb user name and password.
  • Select the ‘Accept Awards’ tab.
  • Adjust or verify the loan amount you wish to accept (up to the maximum amount offered).
  • Your loans will show up in a 'Pending' status.
  • Select the ‘Accepted’ option from the Status drop down box.
  • Select ‘Submit’ to electronically notify the Berry College's Office of Financial Aid of your choice(s).

(2)  Loan Entrance Counseling:
View your ‘Required Documents’ tab on VikingWeb Financial Aid page to see if the 'Loan Entrance Counseling' document is needed.
Federal Direct Loan borrowers must complete Loan Entrance counseling before the loan can be processed by Berry College. An electronic confirmation will be transmitted to the Office of Financial Aid. The counseling session will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. A completed entrance counseling session will be valid for the entire time you are enrolled at least half-time (minimum 6 credits) at Berry College. You will use the same FSA ID you used when filing the FAFSA to electronically sign your Entrance Loan Counseling.

  • Go to studentloans.gov  
  • If you have not already created an account you must do so. If you have created an account, sign in.
  • Click the link to complete 'Entrance Counseling’
    • Select Berry College in the ‘School and Loan Information’ section.
    • There is a quiz at the end of the session.
    • Follow the instructions and submit.

            Print a copy and/or confirmation of the Entrance Counseling for your records.

(3)  Direct Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN)
View your ‘Required Documents’ tab on VikingWeb Financial Aid page to see if the 'Direct Loan MPN' document is needed.
Federal Direct Loan borrowers must complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN) before the loan can be processed by Berry College. An electronic confirmation will be transmitted to the Office of Financial Aid. A completed MPN covers multiple loans for up to a 10-year period. You will use the same FSA ID you used when filing the FAFSA to electronically sign your MPN.

  • Go to studentloans.gov  
  • If you have not already created an account, you must do so. If you have created an account, sign in.
  • Select the link to ‘Sign Master Promissory Note’
  • Select Subsidized/Unsubsidized  
  • Follow the instructions and submit.
  • Once all steps are completed, PRINT your MPN for your records.
