A New Chapter

Several hundred new Berry College students are stopping by the campus this summer for exciting two-day orientation sessions known as SOAR.

Student Orientation, Advising and Registration (SOAR) is a program that introduces freshmen and transfer students to life and work at Berry and to one another. New students have the opportunity to learn their way around, make new friends and meet their freshmen advisers before classes start this fall.

Parents attend meetings on subjects such as financial aid while students participate in icebreaker games and ask current students questions about life at Berry. Many students said a big part of their decision to attend Berry was influenced by the student Work Experience Program, as well as the myriad academic opportunities.

While students come to Berry for many different reasons, one constant is the campus. Justin Booket, who will be on Berry’s football team, said “the deciding factor was how I fell in love with the campus.”

Even the parents are excited. Norm and Ruth Ann Leduc from Orlando, Fla., feel Berry is a perfect fit for their daughter, Elizabeth.

“Berry College offers a well-rounded education with lots of opportunity for interaction with faculty and staff,” said Norm Leduc. “It’s an opportunity for our daughter to discover where she will fit and excel.”

The freshmen return to Berry for Viking Venture Aug. 19-23 and fall classes start Aug. 24.
