Welcome New Alums
On a Berry spring morning, hundreds of family and friends congregated on the Evans lawn to celebrate the success of the class of 2013. Berry College's spring commencement graduated 381 students into the Berry Alumni Association, along with welcoming honored guests to the campus.
Berry grads walked across the stage with pride as Berry College President Stephen Briggs presented each student with a bachelor's, master's or specialist diploma.
U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson gave the commencement address before the largest graduating class in Berry's history. He spoke about his "Six Silent Secrets" to a happy and successful life.
"You can be anything you want to be and you can do it. As long as you learn everything you can in your life, respect those with whom you meet and come across, have ethics so you treat everybody the way you would like to be treated, love the institutions and the people that brought you where you are, have a deep and abiding faith and dream," Isakson said.
Berry also presented Audrey Morgan with an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters degree. Morgan, a long time businesswoman and philanthropist as well as a member of Berry's Board of Visitors, is a major donor and helped start the Gate of Opportunity Scholarship.
Graduate Lyndsey Herman, of Hamlet, N.C., was overwhelmed by the event.
"Graduation day was very surreal. I stood in the rain, rejoiced when the sun came out, received my diploma, and took hundreds of photos. I never anticipated the sadness that would overtake me while saying goodbye to my friends and my RA staff," Herman said.
