Berry Hands in Service
Berry students set a campus record with the largest turnout for the nationwide “Make a Difference Day”.
The students joined 3 million Americans in service on Oct. 22, as part of the largest day of community service each year. For more than two decades, Points of Light has partnered with USA Weekend to sponsor Make A Difference Day.
Part of Berry’s mission is to “challenge students to devote their learning to community and civic betterment,” and the majority of students spend multiple hours per semester serving and investing in their community. Students from 31 clubs, organizations, or residence halls participated in the day.
Volunteer sites included Habitat for Humanity, Chiaha Fall Festival, Winthrop Health and Rehabilitation Center, Open Door Home (Boys’ House and Girls’ House), Challenger Sports- Garden Lakes, Parkinson’s Walk- Rome Braves’ Stadium, Main Elementary School carnival, Angel Express, Mount Berry United Methodist Church, Sunkissed Acres Horse Rescue, Murphy Harpst Children Center, AIDS Resource Council, SOW Ministries (Serving Others Worldwide), Eco-Center of Rome, West Rome Boys and Girls Club, Nixon Avenue Landscaping Project, Hospitality House Thrift Store, Amedisys Hospice Care and the Long-Leaf Pine Project.
