Policy
Vikings email is used as a means of official correspondence. All students are expected to check their email at least once a day. Vikings email accounts remain active for life.
Maintenance Responsibility
Your email box has a maximum capacity of 25GB of storage space. Once you have left Berry College, it is your responsibility to maintain your account. In order to ensure that your account is not disabled, you must login to it at least once every 365 days. Inbound email attachments are limited to a maximum size of 20MB. Outbound email attachments are also limited to a maximum size of 20MB; however, there is no guarantee that the receiving mail server will accept it.
Password Expiration and Reset Procedures
Your password for the Vikings email system is valid for one year from the time you last changed it. If your password is not changed at least once every 365 days, it will expire and you will become locked out of your email account until a new password is set.
Instructions for changing your Berry E-mail password:
- Go to react.berry.edu and click on the Password Reset tool.
- Enter your ReACT ID, which is your preferred first name dot last name.
- Answer the challenge questions when prompted. If it is your first time using react, you will have to set up challenge questions before you are allowed to continue.
- Select the accounts you would like to change the password for. Note that if you change more than one password at the same time, the passwords will be the same for both accounts.
- Type in your new password (at least 6 alpha-numeric characters long - no spaces) in both boxes and click Reset. (NOTE: passwords are case-sensitive, so be aware if the caps-lock is on or off)
- Wait for the page to finish changing your password(s) and click the Finish button.
Faculty/Staff
New accounts for faculty and staff will be requested by department heads and employment status verified through the Human Resources Department. If you forget or lose your password, for security reasons, you must come to the Technical Support Desk (Evans 106) and present valid ID to have your password reset. Faculty and staff may access email on the web at https://mail.berry.edu. They can also call the Technical Support Desk at (706)238-5838 to have a technician setup email using Outlook or Entourage on that person's office computer. To keep faculty and staff from having to deal with unreasonable amounts of spam, Berry uses Microsoft Forefront Online Protection for Exchange. If you receive spam, please forward it to spam@berry.edu. For more information on managing your mailbox, click one of the links below:
Security and Passwords
Your password for the Berry E-mail system is valid for one year from the time you last changed it. If your password is not changed at least once every 365 days, it will expire and you will become locked out of your email account until a new password is set. If you are using the online, “web access” version at https://mail.berry.edu, then you should begin to receive warning notices 14 days before your password expires. Third party e-mail programs such as Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, and Entourage do not display these notices correctly and you will not receive any warning before your password expires if you use any of these programs to read your e-mail.
Instructions for changing your Berry E-mail password:
- Go to your email account at https://mail.berry.edu and enter your username and password.
- From the menu panel (at the bottom of the left window panel), choose “Options”.
- In the main window, scroll to the bottom of the page and click the button to “Change Password”. This will open another window.
- Fill in the appropriate blanks as follows:
Domain: ad
Account: username
Old Password: your old password
New Password: a new password you've never used before (at least 6 characters long)
Confirm New Password: retype new password
(Note: passwords are case-sensitive, so make sure the "caps lock" key is turned off)
*If you do not have a field for Domain, then use “ad\” in front of your username in the Account field. For example, John Smith would enter: ad\jsmith in the account field. Make sure to use "\" and not "/" or you will get an error.
