Hunting Notice | Turkey Season, Mar 24-May 15, 2012
Horse, bicycle and foot trails are closed before 10 am each day. During these hunts, only permitted hunters are allowed on the WMA and all other activities are prohibited before 10 am.

TRAIL NOTICE: Berry College trails are once again open to the public. Individuals are advised that using the property for recreation has always been, and continues to be, at their own risk. Due to on-going cleanup from the major storm in late April, and subsequent smaller storms during the summer, users are advised that trees and/or limbs may have damage that is not apparent or visible. The college has done what it reasonably can do to inspect and clear known hazards, but cannot guarantee the safety of users or that all compromised trees/limbs have been removed. It should be noted by users that it is possible some trees have been rendered unstable, and that dead or compromised over-hanging limbs may continue to be a hazard on these trails.

Please report anything you believe may constitute a hazard on the trails to the Land Resources Department at 706-368-6386 or by email to wyeomans@berry.edu. Thank you.

Information about Recreational Use Privileges at Berry College

Berry College’s beautiful and expansive campus attracts joggers, hikers, cyclists and horseback riders from the Rome area and beyond. We welcome you to our property and hope you enjoy seeing the rolling hills, lovely vistas and plentiful wildlife while you are with us.

The Viking Trail, a three-mile paved trail for walkers, runners, cyclists and rollerbladers, runs between the main campus and the mountain campus. It is one of our most popular trails and is open during daylight hours from the Ladd Center to the entrance to the mountain campus. Designated trails for horseback riders, mountain bikers, joggers and hikers also have been established. Click the links at left for maps of specific trails.

First and foremost, our goal is to provide an array of recreational opportunities for our students and members of the Berry community. In addition, protecting and conserving the 26,000 acres of land are of utmost importance. To that end, we ask that all visitors adhere to specific recreation use policies established to protect the beauty of the campus and to promote safe use of the property. These policies are printed on trail maps distributed by Berry College and also can be accessed online by clicking this link to our Recreational Use Policies Web page.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) manages the 16,000-acre Wildlife Management Area on our campus through an agreement with Berry College. DNR provides comprehensive services that include public safety, fire suppression and managed hunts on Berry property. During these hunts, which are held only on designated days, walking, cycling and horse riding trails are closed (with the exception of the Viking Trail).

Please note that there is no open season for the taking of any wildlife on the Berry College Refuge and hunters may not access the hunting areas through the main campus.

For more information about hunting dates, please click here or go to www.gohuntgeorgia.com or contact the DNR at 706-295-6041.
