Roatan: Summer 2016

Day 4 - June 7 - Pre-Project Day

We started off with a very early morning squall and thunderstorm that rattled the rooms, but seemed to calm the seas.  The morning dive was at a dive site called Four Sponges (we actually saw more than that). The sand flats at the beginning of the dive had hundreds of yellow jaw fish dancing around their holes in the sand bottom, We spent a good bit of time watching the show.  We also had a close encounter with a good sized hawksbill sea turtle and were able to see two spotted eagle rays – all in all a good dive. After lunch, we went to Barry’s Reef and did our first wall dive.  We also saw a peacock flounder, great barracuda, and lots of Christmas tree worms.  We finished the afternoon with a lecture on coral diseases and ecology.
