Berry Scholars Program 

The Council on Student Scholarships administers, in conjunction with the Office of the Provost, student research and scholarship programs.  

The KIRBO SCHOLARS is awarded to students who have completed at least 24 credit hours at Berry College. This annual competition awards up to $1,250 to Berry College students to support projects related to the student's academic research or growth experiences such as study abroad, internships, or artistic endeavors. The RICHARDS SCHOLARS  is designed for Berry students in their junior and senior years. The goal of the program is to help students move beyond the excellent work characteristic of many Berry students to a superlative level through a one-on-one working relationship with a faculty mentor. This program awards $5,000 to Berry College students and $1,000 to a faculty mentor. Click here for the Richards Scholar Application. Application deadline is March 21, 2018.

The SYNOVUS SOPHOMORE SCHOLARS Program awards up to $2,000 to Berry College students who are rising sophomores and $500 for faculty or staff mentors to support projects related to the student's exploration of academic, research or growth experiences such as practicums, research, internships, entrepreneurial service or work projects, or artistic endeavors. Application deadline is March 21, 2018. 

All Berry Scholar awardees must complete a Report of Activities by May 1 of the year following the award. Student Research Development Fund

The Student Research Development Fund is intended to enable students to take part in the important professional activity of conference presentation. Funding is intended to cover expenses, such as conference travel, registration fees, hotel costs, and meals. 


All students in good academic standing are eligible to receive a Student Research Development grant. Grants are awarded at the discretion of the Council on Student Scholarship to students who are presenting original research or other scholarly activity at a professional conference. Individual students may receive only one grant per academic year. 

Application Process  

To have an application considered for funding, a student must complete an application form and attach a copy of the conference program or letter of acceptance. The maximum amount that may be awarded per application is $500. The application deadlines are September 14, 2017, November 16, 2017, January 18, 2018 and April 18, 2018. 

Administrative Procedures  

Completed applications are reviewed in a timely manner and subject to approval by the Council on Student Scholarship. Students, who are awarded funds, must present receipts for reimbursement. In cases of documented need, case advances are available. 

Richards undergraduate research support grant

The Richards Undergraduate Research Support Grants allow students to purchase equipment of supplies, expenses for project-related travel and/or publication costs.  A student is eligible for this grant as long as they are in good standing with the college. An individual student cannot receive more than $1,500 per year and no student will be eligible to receive more than one Richards Undergraduate Research Support Grant each academic year.

These grants will be awarded on a competitive basis and will be selected by the Council on Student Scholarship.  Deadlines for applications will be the same each semester as the Student Research Development Fund which are September 14, 2017, November 16, 2015, January 18, 2018 and April 18, 2018. Symposium on Student Scholarship
