Short Bio

Dr. Heames is the Dean of the Campbell School of Business at Berry College in Rome, GA.  She came to Berry from West Virginia University where she served as Associate Dean of Innovation, Outreach, and Engagement for the College of Business & Economics. Prior to that appointment, she was Chair of the Department of Management with programs in Entrepreneurship, Hospitality and Tourism, International Business, and Business Administration.  Her academic career started at a private college, Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama.


Joyce is a native of Birmingham, AL, holds a Bachelor of Science and Masters of Business Administration degrees from Samford University and earned her Ph.D. from the University of Mississippi (OleMiss).

Teaching Interests

Her teaching centers on courses such as 1) Corporate Social Responsibility, 2) Human Resource Management, 3) Talent Acquisition, and 3) Training and Development.  She has taught classes at all academic levels: undergraduate, masters, and doctorate. 

Research Interests

Dr. Heames’ primary area of research is counterproductive work behavior, but also explores leadership, management history, and organizational knowledge transference.

Field Experience

Joyce has over 25 years of experience in business and education as a trainer, teacher, facilitator, and college administrator. She has delivered executive education and professional development programs for organizations such as Mylan Pharmaceuticals, Steptoe Johnson Attorneys at Law, Mercedes-Benz, Davis Memorial Health Systems, WV Department of Environmental Protection, and the Forensic Management Academy.  As a popular speaker and trainer, Joyce has delivered programs such as:

Her work has been published in the Journal of World Business, Journal of Applied Social Psychology, Journal of Leadership & Organizational Studies, Journal of Management History, International Journal of Human Resource Management, Journal of Applied Management and Entrepreneurship, and the Human Resource Development Quarterly (HRDQ). She has served on the Editorial Review Team and/or Board for noted academic journals such as Group & Organization Management, Management Decision, HRMagazine, and HRDQ.

Professional Associations

Dr. Heames is a member and officer of the Southern Management Association and has been a long-standing member of the Academy of Management, the Society for Human Resource Management, and Beta Gamma Sigma. She served as Chapter President, Beta Gamma Sigma in 2016.
