Applying to BCEMS

A number of students are selected for admission each year for grades K-8. To help discover if your student belongs at BCEMS, we spend time getting to know student applicants and families during the admission process.

As a starting point, student applicants should demonstrate at least:

  • Good academic potential.
  • Ability to independently work, comprehend, and achieve on or above grade-level.
  • Appropriate social and behavioral skills and developmental milestones.

As a starting point, parents should demonstrate at least:

  • Familial commitment to educational excellence.
  • Ability and willingness to form a partnership to share the responsibility of educating a child.

The BCEMS Admission Committee welcomes applications throughout the school year. Students who are accepted may be placed on a waiting list pending an opening.

Date of completion of the following steps is important. All steps must be completed before a student’s application will be reviewed by the BCEMS Admission Committee.

Whenever possible, Berry College Elementary & Middle School gives preferential consideration to the following applicants who complete the admission process according to availability of enrollment as well as important deadlines:

  • Children of full-time Berry College employees.
  • Siblings of currently enrolled BCEMS students.
  • Students currently enrolled at Berry College’s Child Development Center.

APPLYING TO KINDERGARTEN

An application for Kindergarten should be completed during the fall before a child will be ready for beginning school the following August. Students should be 5 years old on or before September 1 of the kindergarten year. Students should be 6 years old on or before September 1 of the first grade year.

Applications from the following individuals will be given preferential consideration during BCEMS Kindergarten Early Admission (September 1 – October 26, 2016) provided all steps in the admission process are completed:

  • Children of full-time Berry College employees.
  • Siblings of currently enrolled BCEMS students.
  • Students currently enrolled at Berry College’s Child Development Center.

BCEMS Kindergarten Open Admission begins on November 1, 2016, and is open to the Northwest Georgia community.  Date of completing all steps in the admission process can be an important factor.

A note about kindergarten readiness: All children are ready at different times. All children have strengths and areas that are still developing. A child who has the readiness skills (academic, cognitive, social, emotional, physical including gross and fine motor, personal) will have the best experience. The acquisition of kindergarten readiness skills and development are carefully considered during the kindergarten application process.

WAITING LIST

At BCEMS, “Waiting List” does not mean a list of accepted students in rank order with numbers. In the event a student applies and is offered acceptance by the BCEMS Admission Committee for a classroom that has no openings, the student will be considered “waiting list” status. If and when an opening becomes available, “waiting list” students will be considered by the BCEMS Admission Committee, therefore it can benefit a student to go thru the admission process.

Due to limited enrollment, we frequently have “waiting list” students. Acceptance and enrollment can depend on many factors including being patient. A waiting list student who would like to be considered again in subsequent years will need to reapply and complete the admission process.
