Undergraduate Grants


The Council on Student Scholarship invites students in all disciplines and areas of study to apply for funding to support undergraduate research projects. As defined by the Council for Undergraduate Research (CUR), undergraduate research is “an inquiry or investigation conducted by an undergraduate student that makes an original intellectual or creative contribution to the discipline.” The research idea may originate with the student or it may be part of a larger faculty project.

Richards Grant

  • Provides up to $5,000 to fund two-year projects that create an original scholarly or artistic contribution.
  • Apply as a sophomore to support a project completed in the junior and senior year.  (Freshman applicants are also eligible.)
  • Due date: March 18, 2019

Kirbo Grant

  • Provides up to $1,250 to fund one-year projects that create an original scholarly or artistic contribution.
  • Apply as a sophomore or junior to support a project completed in the junior or senior year.
  • Due date: April 18, 2019

Synovus Grant

  • Provides up to $2,000 to fund one-year projects that support the academic and personal development of students early in their Berry career.
  • Apply as a freshman to support a project completed in the sophomore year.
  • Due date: April 18, 2019

Richards Undergraduate Research Grant (RUGS)  

  • Provides up to $1,500 to fund one-year projects where the student carries out a majority of the project’s objectives. 
  • Apply as a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior.
  • Due dates: Sept. 18, Nov. 19, Jan. 18, April 18

Student Research Development Fund (SRDF)

  • Provides up to $500 to fund the important professional activity of conference presentation. 
  • Apply as a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior.
  • Due dates: Sept. 18, Nov. 19, Jan. 18, April 18

Symposium on Student Scholarship

  • Annual campus-wide celebration of student scholarship: April 9, 2019
  • Apply to present research findings and creative endeavors in oral or poster presentation sessions.
  • Abstract Submission due date: February 25, 2019
