Giving Back

More than 470 donors and scholarship recipients filled the Cage Center to enjoy Berry’s annual Scholarship Night - the culmination of a special week thanking Berry supporters.

The evening began with a welcome from Barry Griswell, a Berry alumnus and chair of the Board of Trustees, and an invocation by senior Thalia Jones. The Berry Ballad Girls performed a beautiful rendition of “For Good” directed by Associate Music Professor Paul Neal.

President Steve Briggs thanked the guests in attendance and introduced the speakers including Berry Alumni Council President-Elect Jonathan Purser and Senior Class President Anna Walker.

“Be Berry week has solidified what I already knew, that Berry is such a special place and the community here is amazing and more like a family than we are anything else,” Walker said.

Purser spoke of his time at Berry and the impact it had on his life. He and his wife are Berry graduates who married at Frost Chapel; their life and gratitude always came back to Berry.

“I learned to love the idea of growing things,” he said. “Not just natural plants but growing people, growing organizations. Investing into others and watching young people grow right before your very eyes. I’ve learned this love of growing things and others while here at Berry.”
