Berry College PA Students Attend Hill Day

Berry College’s Physician Associate Program participated for the first time in the Georgia Academy of Physician Associates’ Hill Day at the Georgia State Capitol.

Faculty and all 28 students joined fellow members to advocate for legislation and engage with state lawmakers on March 4.

The delegation’s primary focus was the PA Compact interstate licensure bill sponsored by Rep. Sharon Cooper, HB 1295. The bill, which would allow physician associates to practice across state lines more efficiently, passed the House that day — and Rep. Angie O’Steen recognized the Berry students by name from the House floor during the vote.

Rep. Chuck Martin, chairman of the House Higher Education Committee, invited a small group of Berry students, along with program faculty and Georgia Academy of Physician Associates’ President Jonathan Hill, to meet privately to discuss health care access in Georgia and concerns surrounding federal student loans.

Throughout the day, students and faculty met with a wide range of legislators and advocates.
