Last fall, Amelie Willett ’25 landed a position as an HTML email developer for AMB Sports and Entertainment (part of The Blank Family of Businesses that comprises the Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta United FC, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta Drive GC and the PGA Superstore). The computer science major says campus jobs and persistence set her up for success.
Professional development at Berry
Positions as lead teaching assistant for the computer science department and web content associate for the digital marketing department allowed Willett to apply skills relevant to the job market.
Mentor Cris deRevere, web strategy and SEO manager, says Willett took full advantage of her campus work. “Amelie left Berry fully prepared for the workforce, not just from her hard skills, training and work experience, but also soft skills from club participation, mentorship and collaboration.”
Willett adds, “One of the biggest skills I apply in my job is the importance of balancing multiple tasks, all with different priorities. You must learn how to thrive in a fast-moving environment and be diligent in your work. Always be open to learning new skills and asking questions.”
Job search tips
For those navigating a challenging job market, Willett shares a few pointers:
- Berry’s Center for Personal and Professional Development will help you polish your resume.
- Reach out to alumni and your mentors for advice and tips. They want you to thrive and believe in you.
- Consider using online tools that help you locate and apply for jobs in a central location. That saved about five hours filling in applications!
- In interviews, ask questions about the company or work environment. Show your interest in them.
It may take a while to find the right fit, but Willett says persistence pays off. “I stayed motivated by just trying to apply to jobs every day,” she reflects. “You will find the job that is meant for you, so put your best self in every application and interview!”
