Listed below are a sampling of courses and subject areas where Berry’s 27,000-acre outdoor laboratory has been utilized for instruction and enrichment by Berry faculty and instructors from local schools. If you wish to find a faculty contact to learn more about their experiences with using land resources as an educational tool, write to ELM@berry.edu and provide your name and contact information. If you are a teacher and wish to bring students to Berry for a particular project or lesson, you are requested to register your intent.

BIO 305 - Prin. of Ecology: fish population survey; mapping and GPS; intra- and inter-specific competition among species

BIO 311 - General Botany: flora collection for classroom use

BIO 331 - Invertebrate Zoology: aquatic invertebrate collection for biological survey

EVS 405 - Methods in Environmental Science: wetlands delineation project

GEO 420 - Hydrology: surface water and groundwater testing

BIO 405 - Conservation Biology: Practical and theoretical problems facing conservationists

BIO 302 - Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy Studies of the development, structure, and function of vertebrate organ systems from an evolutionary perspective

BIO 415 - Behavioral Ecology- Survival value of animal behavior from an evolutionary perspective; optimization, aggressions, mate choice, parental care, communication and altruism.

BIO 465- Aquatic Biology- A field-oriented course that examines current methods in limnology, aquatic sampling techniques, examination of local flora and fauna, aquaculture, stream and lake management and aquatic conservation.

GEO 320- Environmental Geology- Introduction to the interrelationships between various elements of the earth’s environment and human activity.

GEO 101- Physical Geology- Introductory study of the material, structure and surface features of the earth.
