All the counselors are licensed mental health providers. Due to demand for counseling, the Counseling Center counselors have individual appointments with clients on a biweekly basis in order to accommodate all students.  The Counseling Center operates on a short-term, goal-oriented model and most students see a counselor for only 4-7 sessions.

Concerns WITHIN Counseling Center’s Scope of Practice:

  • Anxiety and/or panic concerns
  • Depression and lack of motivation
  • Stress
  • Conflict Resolution
  • Time Management
  • Interpersonal concerns regarding friends, family, roommates, romantic partners, etc.
  • Self-confidence concerns
  • Identity development related to various dimensions of identities (sexual, racial/ethnic, religious, gender, etc.) and connection to healthy supports on campus
  • Academic performance, motivation, and perfectionism or other issues that affect academic performance
  • Non-complex traumatic events (Single event trauma): car accident, death, bullying, etc.

Concerns OUTSIDE the Counseling Center’s Scope of Practice that may require a referral to an outside / community provider:

  • Students who need weekly or more frequent sessions
  • Students who are already in treatment with another mental health provider
  • Students seeking documentation for Emotional Support Animals
  • Students seeking therapy only to obtain documentation for another college department
  • Couples or family therapy
  • Comprehensive psychological evaluations of any type, including but not limited to: forensic evaluations, custody or divorce assessments, academic disability, neuropsychological exams, ADHD or Autism Spectrum assessments, etc.
  • Complex PTSD or complex trauma
  • Active/Impairing significant eating concerns/disorders
  • Active/Impairing drug or alcohol problems as the primary presenting issue
  • Untreated psychotic disorders
