Berry College encourages faculty members to engage in professional activities which will enhance their growth as scholars and teachers and contribute to the goals and objectives of their respective schools and departments as well as the institution. The following opportunities are available for Scholarship, Teaching Development, and Diversity and Belonging:

Scholarship Funding

Faculty Scholarship Grant

Faculty Scholarship Grant is awarded to assist faculty with research projects. Awards are granted up to $3,000 per grant cycle. All full-time faculty on a continuing appointment are eligible to apply.  

SUMMER SCHOLARSHIP STIPEND

Summer Scholarship Stipends are awarded to faculty devoting at least ten weeks of the summer to research. Awards for summer stipends are $5,000. Tenured and tenure-track faculty members are eligible to apply.

TEACHING DEVELOPMENT: Funding 

INNOVATIVE TEACHING GRANT

Innovative Teaching Grants award funds of up to $1,000 per grant cycle (fiscal year). All full-time faculty on a continuing appointment are eligible to apply for an Innovative Teaching Grant. These teaching grants support proposals that enhance the faculty member’s teaching. Examples include: development of innovative courses using emerging technologies or pedagogies, bringing a consultant to Berry, or hosting a workshop at Berry for faculty working together on course development or some other aspect of teaching. 

TEACHING Travel GRANT

Teaching development travel grants award funds of up to $1,500.  This grant supports faculty travel to attend conferences or workshops on teaching development or other areas that would enhance a faculty’s teaching. Tenured and tenure-track faculty members, clinical faculty, and senior lecturers are eligible to apply for the Teaching Development Travel Grant. A tenure-track faculty member or a pre-promotion clinical faculty or permanent lecturer with a meritorious proposal will be supported to attend one conference or workshop before they submit their P&T dossier.

TEACHING DEVELOPMENT: Fellowships


Governors Teaching Fellows

Established by Zell Miller, this prestigious program is offered through the Institute of Higher Education at the University of Georgia (UGA). It includes a combination of structured instructional and faculty development activities, as well as self-directed activities designed to provide higher education faculty with expanded opportunities for developing teaching skills. 

Any full-time, regular faculty member may apply to represent Berry for either Summer or Academic Year Symposia.

Diversity Infusion Funding

Diversity Infusion Mini-Grant

Up to $250 is available to support a course revision that will enhance the inclusion of diverse voices in your course. Examples include:

  • Honoraria for guest presenters
  • Food and travel expenses for off-campus class visits (e.g. travel to an exhibit, performance, or site), and
  • Classroom materials that may not be covered by regular departmental funds The deadline for this option is rolling.

One application per faculty member per semester.

Diversity Infusion Stipend

Faculty are eligible for a $250 stipend for completing a 5 week online course on inclusive course design through CornellX. An additional $250 stipend is available upon submission of the following materials:

  • A completed course syllabus highlighting inclusion of diverse voices 
  • Detailed student learning outcomes and how newly incorporated perspectives will serve to facilitate those learning outcomes
